Uh.... I am not a witch at all...
I filled in a great deal this week "on the floor" due to one nurse being stuck with a dirty needle, another having a nervous break down and yet another who pulled out her back, and then one who had a scheduled vacation. There just wasn't enough of me to go around. I am tired to say the least....
but my wizard of oz question is because I had one patient yesterday who said he didn't like me.
he said if I wasn't this one particular nurse ( the one on vacation )who he adored then he didn't like me. Now I realized at that moment, this man is blind , has no legs and is dying.... so I held in my perfectly brilliant retort ( what do you call a man with no legs? Bob) and I simply went about my nursing business....
which includes medications. I gave them to him. When he found out I gave them to him without telling him first ( he was sleeping) the earth shifted and all hell broke loose. He made a formal grievance against me to my boss.
Patients sleep at least two hours of their three or four hours of treatment. Giving meds while patients sleep is normal. But..... apparently this one truly loved...on vacation.... nurse wakes him and lets him know. I didn't!
I am certainly not in any trouble, but for some strange reason I feel he doesn't even know me to dislike me.... I mean I haven't even been the bad witch I could be... :) I am a nice person and I don't like it when people don't like me... for no reason. I am truly weird.
There will be no container for this.... I just need to throw it away.

Don't worry about it my sweet, you did nothing wrong.
Besides the fact that your a good person, who wouldn't have done it had you known. However, I think there should be standards for everyone to follow so these types of things don't blind side others and get grievances filed against them. Not a good thing.
I think that he was probably just a grumpy old man, who like most grumpy old men dont like change, or having to deal with a "new" woman! and in all honestly he probably would have complained had you woken him up! lol!!
what if you impliment something new, and have all patients asked that question and then it can be marked in there chart. since obviously every nurse cant possibly know how every patient wants things!
Just because someone is sick doesn't mean they haven't been a jerk their whole life. Some people just suck.
